Considerations regarding the use of screening tools in the identification of children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

The study investigates the reliability of two screening tools for AD/HD. Parents of 170 children diagnosed with AD/HD completed the “AD/HD Rating Scale IV” and the “CBCL”. Almost 30% of children diagnosed with AD/HD were reported to fall in the abnormal range of the CBCL and almost half of them in the abnormal range of the AD/HD Rating Scale. The correlation of the two screening tools was r = 0,704 (p=0,01). Although AD/HD is one of the most well-studied disorders with several assessment strategies being used, the field is challenged to further improve the identification process based on behavior rating scales, ill order to lead 10 an accurate diagnosis of AD/HD.
